The New Zealand Government has announced a new border exception for up to 300 overseas qualified teachers (and their partners and dependent children) to come into New Zealand, whilst the borders remain closed. The process will start in September 2021.
In order to recruit a teacher from overseas, the schools must:
- be “hard to staff”or
- in decile 1-3 or
- require STEM teachers and
- demonstrate they have exhausted their recruitment options in the New Zealand market
For Early Learning services to be eligible, they must:
- be low decile (as measured by the Ministry of Health’s deprivation index 8-10) and
- demonstrate they have exhausted their recruitment options in the New Zealand market
