Do you want to work in New Zealand? There are currently 3 Essential Skills in Demand lists for roles where there is a shortage of qualified workers in New Zealand. These are the Long Term Skill Shortage List, the Regional Skill Shortage List and the Construction and Infrastructure Skill Shortage List.
The lists are created for occupations where suitable New Zealanders are hard to find. And a visa may be granted to enable a qualified worker from overseas to work in New Zealand. The lists are reviewed regularly with occupations being added and removed to meet demand.
Don’t worry if your occupation does not appear on one of these lists. There are still many other occupations where New Zealand employers need to recruit from overseas. And we can help you understand your chances of getting a work visa, based on your qualifications, work experience and offer of employment.
The Long Term Skill Shortage List is for occupations where there is a sustained shortage of highly skilled workers throughout New Zealand.
The Regional Skill Shortage List replaced the Immediate Skill Shortage list on 27 May 2019, and is for occupations for which there is a skill shortage within the 15 regions contained in the list.
The Construction and Infrastructure Skill Shortage List is for construction-related occupations where there is a critical and immediate shortage across 15 regions of New Zealand.
