Exciting news for secondary school teachers! Immigration New Zealand is introducing a Straight to Residence Visa (STR) pathway for eligible secondary teachers.
Starting in May, overseas secondary school teachers meeting the criteria can apply for residence directly from overseas if they have a job offer from an accredited employer. Similarly, eligible teachers already working in New Zealand can also apply for the STR Visa.
Please note that this change specifically applies to secondary school teachers. Other teaching roles will continue under the Green List Work to Residence pathway.
Secondary teachers applying for the Straight to Residence Visa must have a job offer with a salary of at least $31.61 per hour (which is the New Zealand median wage that has been in effect from 28th February 2024).
