The NZ Government has confirmed that Tier 2 of the Green List will be expanded from 29th May 2023, to include a number of teaching roles. These teaching roles will be added to the Work to Residence Green List pathway from 29th May. As a result, eligible teachers will be able to apply for residence after working in their New Zealand role for at least 24 months, subject to the requirements listed below:

Teaching roles:

  • School Principal
  • Kaiako Kura Kaupapa Māori – Māori-medium Primary School Teacher
  • Pouako Kura Kaupapa Māori – Māori-medium Primary School Senior Teacher
  • Primary School Teacher
  • Middle School Teacher / Intermediate School Teacher
  • Secondary School Teachers  – all specialisations
  • Special Needs Teacher
  • Teacher of the Hearing Impaired
  • Teacher of the Sight Impaired
  • Special Education Teachers nec
  • Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages   – if working in a primary, intermediate or secondary school
Requirements:

NZ registration with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand

AND

A provisional practising certificate issued by the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand

Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages must be working in a primary, intermediate or secondary school

 

 

 

 

In addition, once these roles have been added to the Green List on 29th May 2023, employers will not be required to show evidence of advertising when they submit a Job Check for an Accredited Employer Work Visa. And teachers working in a Green List role on an Accredited Employer Work Visa will be able to sponsor a partner on an open work visa.
